My goal was to expand my general understanding of AI, data governance and the ethical side of data use in a government environment. I got that, plus a great network of people working in different organisations but dealing with similar challenges on a daily basis. The classroom sessions, led by specialists in their fields, were great fun and there was plenty of room for interaction. Highly recommended!

The program helps you exchange ideas on the axis of practical experience and theoretical foundations. This makes it easy to translate insights from other organizations and lecturers to your own organization. It is organized nicely with a strong balance between theory, practical exercises and an actual project of your own in which you learn a lot about cooperation between government organizations. As far as I am concerned, there are several reasons why I find the JADS training for civil servants valuable:
1) It is enormously valuable to have the conversation about the social tasks that both organisations are working on, to discover where the different views (abstractions) on the same task diverge;
2) It provides a network within the wider government (outside your own organization) where the exchange of ideas leads to valuable lessons for your own organization. Other organizations are slightly more advanced on some issues and being able to discuss it over a theoretically based axis makes it easy to translate into your own practice;
3) It gives room to think about implementing ideas within your own organization and explanations are given by professionals who have applied them in practice. The lessons therefore regularly have excursions to practical assignments of a few minutes that make the power of data tangible, such as getting to work with “process mining” yourself.
