JADS x Den Bosch

Rooted in history, growing with data

Welcome to the place where data science and Den Bosch come together. At JADS, we take pride in our roots in this beautiful city. Here, in the heart of Den Bosch, we work every day on innovative solutions that make life better. From groundbreaking technologies to collaborations with local businesses—JADS connects the city’s history with its future.

Jheronimus Bosch

JADS proudly carries the name of Den Bosch’s most iconic artist, Jheronimus Bosch. Just as he transformed art with his vision, we’re transforming data science with ours. Our historic building in the heart of the city connects us to Den Bosch’s rich heritage while helping to shape its future as a vibrant student city.

Improving the local living environment

At JADS, we’re all about making Den Bosch an even better place to live. Through projects like the Smart City Monitor and the City Deal Kennis Maken, we use the power of data to tackle real-world challenges in our city. It’s how we combine advanced technology with real impact.

Case 1: Den Bosch Time Machine project

The Den Bosch Time Machine brings the city’s rich history to life using modern technology. Led by the heritage department, students built an interactive street register that combines historic and current data about the streets of Den Bosch. With an easy-to-use dashboard, anyone can explore stories and images from the city’s past. This project makes it simple for residents and researchers alike to connect with Den Bosch’s history in a whole new way.

Case 2: Tracking Visitor Patterns at Het Noordbrabants Museum

During the Van Goghs Intimi exhibition, JADS teamed up with Het Noordbrabants Museum (HNBM) and Heijmans for a unique project to better understand how visitors move through the museum and the city. Using 75 sensors, installed by Heijmans, JADS students collected and analyzed anonymous data to uncover visitor hotspots, optimize routes, and improve the museum shop experience. By also tracking movements in the city center, the project provided valuable insights into how exhibitions impact local businesses, helping HNBM enhance the overall visitor experience both inside and outside the museum.

Better personnel planning based on weather expectations

For Bakery Royal, students from JADS MKB Datalab worked out a data model that predicts the influence of weather conditions on turnover, and on personnel planning.

Exploring Exsell's data to build a recommender system

Exsell partnered with JADS in the Causal Inference course, presenting a real-world dataset challenge to students, to see what they did with it. The dataset was aimed at testing students' ability to build models and derive meaningful insights from the data

MKB Datalab helps Welvaarts Weegsystemen to save transport costs

MKB Datalab helped to optimize the waste disposal process by creating a model that predicts how full an underground container is. Thanks to this insight, Welvaarts Weegsystemen can help waste services dynamically change their route and empty containers more efficiently.

AI-powered risk analysis: SME Datalab's collaboration with Safety Region Brabant North

In collaboration with SME Datalab, Safety Region Brabant North implemented Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) to swiftly gather factual data from public documents. This initiative reduced the time-intensive nature of risk analysis and minimized the risk of using incorrect information or leaking sensitive data.
