For (future) data translators within government agencies

For governments, it is essential to access, combine and leverage data. This is the only way they can create a meaningful impact for their inhabitants in the face of increasingly large and complex societal challenges. That is precisely where this program will support you as a professional. Learn from leading experts what digitization can mean for you. And how your policy topic can be designed accordingly.

Purpose of this program Digitalization for Government?

In recent years, we have seen technological changes with increasing impact follow each other faster and faster. One major reason: datafication. Datafication is also a driver of major changes in central government. Data translators are needed to guide these changes in a sustainable way. Data translators are bridge builders who can link domain-oriented tasks and departmental goals to usable datasets and technologies.

  • Name the opportunities and possibilities that digitalisation creates for our social tasks;
  • Demonstrating “digital entrepreneurship” within your own field of work, by identifying opportunities to create value with data;
  • Gain insight into success and failure factors from government practice when deploying digitization and data;
  • Being a client of a data project yourself.

Especially built for:

  • Public sector program leaders or strategists.

The program is open to employees of government institutions; ministries, provinces, municipalities, but also, for example, water boards and environmental services. What you’ll learn during during Digitalization for Government

The program is intended for employees of government institutions; ministries, provinces, municipalities, but also, for example, water boards and environmental services. The program offers program leaders and strategists from the public sector the opportunity to learn about the role of digitization in economic and social transitions. In addition, you will learn how to apply data for policy issues. The impact of new (digital) technologies such as artificial intelligence and, in particular, generative AI, will also be part of this course.

Day 1: Data Science & AI, the big picture | government case and project introduction | 28 March 2025

How intelligent is the ‘I’ in AI? Prof. Dr. Emile Aarts explores the evolution of AI, from its historical roots to its impact on business and society today. He’ll dive into the rise of generative methods and what they mean for the future.

Day 2: Ethics & responsible AI | 4 April 2025

Responsible AI ensures ethical, transparent, and fair AI development. This session explores key principles and challenges in making AI trustworthy.

Day 3: Data governance | 11 April 2025

Data governance is crucial, but its fundamentals are often unclear. This session explores what data really is and how to build a solid governance strategy.

Project supervision

During the training you will work in groups on cases. During the project sessions you will work on the cases and you will receive guidance from an expert.

Day 4: Methods for data science implementation | 16 May 2025

Data science implementation depends on the problem, data, and technology. This session covers key methods, ethical concerns, and legal requirements.

Extracting value from data; case study Kadaster

We start the session by examining Kadaster as a data-driven organization. We will then discuss how Data Science is organized within Kadaster, and more specifically the role of the Data Science Team. In the second part, we will look in detail at examples; in particular the Geodata Square where data science and AI come together.

Day 5: Visualization | 23 May 2025

Visualizations help data scientists explore data and uncover key patterns. They also communicate insights effectively, making complex information clear and compelling.

Deepening Data Analysis

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are two closely related concepts in the world of computer science and technology, but they differ in their applications and approaches. AI is the broader concept of creating intelligence in machines, while ML is a specific technological approach within AI that focuses on learning from data to perform tasks. ML is an important tool in achieving AI goals and is widely used in various industries and applications.
