Purpose of this program Digitalization for Government?
In recent years, we have seen technological changes with increasing impact follow each other faster and faster. One major reason: datafication. Datafication is also a driver of major changes in central government. Data translators are needed to guide these changes in a sustainable way. Data translators are bridge builders who can link domain-oriented tasks and departmental goals to usable datasets and technologies.

Learn about the impact of new (digital) technologies such as artificial intelligence and, in particular, generative AI. Specific prior knowledge of Data Science / AI is not required to follow this programme.
What you will learn during Digitalization for Government
The program is intended for employees of government institutions; ministries, provinces, municipalities, but also, for example, water boards and environmental services. The program offers program leaders and strategists from the public sector the opportunity to learn about the role of digitization in economic and social transitions. In addition, you will learn how to apply data for policy issues. The impact of new (digital) technologies such as artificial intelligence and, in particular, generative AI, will also be part of this course.
The program consists of 10 knowledge-based lecture days. The morning is spent on theory and the afternoon you work on a project and/or practical application. Government case histories are central to this: both lecturers and participants contribute cases:
- AI and Machine Learning;
- Security, Risks and Resilience;
- Data Strategy and Data Governance;
- Ethics;
- Visualization;
- Data Engineering and Open Data;
- Process Mining + Entrepreneurship/innovation.
During the final session, you will pitch your project in the form of a management recommendation. And the certificate ceremony will take place 👨🎓👩🎓

I got that, plus a great network of people working in different organisations but dealing with similar challenges on a daily basis. The classroom sessions, led by specialists in their fields, were great fun and there was plenty of room for interaction. Highly recommended!

The program helps you exchange ideas on the axis of practical experience and theoretical foundations. This makes it easy to translate insights from other organizations and lecturers to your own organization. It is organized nicely with a strong balance between theory, practical exercises and an actual project of your own in which you learn a lot about cooperation between government organizations. As far as I am concerned, there are several reasons why I find the JADS training for civil servants valuable:
1) It is enormously valuable to have the conversation about the social tasks that both organisations are working on, to discover where the different views (abstractions) on the same task diverge;
2) It provides a network within the wider government (outside your own organization) where the exchange of ideas leads to valuable lessons for your own organization. Other organizations are slightly more advanced on some issues and being able to discuss it over a theoretically based axis makes it easy to translate into your own practice;
3) It gives room to think about implementing ideas within your own organization and explanations are given by professionals who have applied them in practice. The lessons therefore regularly have excursions to practical assignments of a few minutes that make the power of data tangible, such as getting to work with “process mining” yourself.
