How do you apply for an EngD Data Science position?

To apply for the EngD Data Science program, there are two mandatory steps you have to take. After completion of these two steps you will be informed about the result of your application. A positive reply will mean that you will go forward to a thorough assessment through a Data Challenge Week and an application interview.

Step 1

The first step is to provide the necessary information for the program management to assess your eligibility for the program. Please do this by sending a completed application form, which you can fill in here:

Step 2

Have you submitted the online application form? Perfect! Then it is time to get to know your, academic, journey even better. Therefore, we kindly request you to submit the following documents to the secretariat of the program. Please send these documents to DPdatascience@tue.nl.

  1. Photo (jpeg-format)
  2. Motivation letter
  3. Curriculum vitae
  4. Copy of the MSc-diploma, including an (informal) translation of this document into English
  5. Copy of the MSc-thesis
  6. A copy of the list of marks that you obtained in order to fulfill the requirements for the Master degree;
  7. The translation of the list of marks, validated by your university administration. Necessary only if your list of marks is not in English;
  8. Proof of level of English language (for example IELTS)(check language requirements)
  9. Copy of ID or passport

If you are selected for the next step, you will receive more detailed information, along with a formal invitation letter.

 

You have applied: then what? A timeline!

From applying to the EngD program in Data Science, to actually starting as a trainee at our campus in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands: it has quite a few steps. The overall process, starting with the opening of the application process till starting at our campus, will take about 10 months. We thought a visual might help you guide the process and to manage your expectations. Check the visual timeline here.

The process breaks down like this:

  1. The application period is opened
  2. The applications are continuously reviewed
  3. We inform you about the outcome of your application via email
  4. When selected, we ask you to confirm your participation to the Data Challenge Week. This is our unique way of selecting new candidates and train current trainees
  5. After your confirmation we send you the Official Invite and letter for the embassy (if VISA is required) to participate in the Data Challenge Week
  6. The Data Challenge Week starts
  7. After participating in the week, we inform you about the outcome via email (selected or rejected)
  8. When selected, we ask you to confirm
  9. After your confirmation, we send you the job offer for the traineeship
  10. After accepting the job offer, we start you onboarding to JADS
  11. The EngD in Data Science program starts!

Every six months, a new selection period begins with our next Data Challenge Week on the horizon. Next application round will open 14 April 2025.
