Aarnout Brombacher is full professor at Eindhoven University of Technology since 1993. He is working in the field of health, sports, and active lifestyle from the perspective of data science. His focus is on on-body data acquisition, analysis, and representation in a real-life setting especially for people with (chronic) diseases as well as structural challenges influencing their (future) health. His passion is leading research in this field as well as disseminating the results via industrial projects and education.
Over the last ten years this research field has shown a rapid (r)evolution due to the resent developments in digital technology. Currently it is possible to follow user-system interactions on a 24/7 basis with an ever-increasing level of detail. This gives not only increasing possibilities for research using rich datasets; it also raises very important issues with respect to ethics and privacy. These last two elements are therefore an important part of his research.
Aarnout Brombacher is member of several (inter)national committees in this field and was, until 31-12-2023, the official representative of the Dutch Universities in the TopTeam Sports and Active Lifestyle of the Dutch Ministry of health, Sports and Wellbeing.
JADS also participates in several (international) projects, which contribute to grand societal challenges like health, food security, smart transport and secure societies. Together with companies, government, NGO’s and other knowledge institutions, JADS works on solutions by using data.
