Eric Postma is full professor Artificial Intelligence (AI) at Tilburg University, department of Cognitive Science & AI and at JADS, Data Analytics Unit. His work focuses on pattern recognition in humans and machines and covers a large variety of tasks on which AI and humans compete, for instance, medical diagnosis from images or signals, exoplanet detection from signals, malnutrition detection from images or videos, and art attribution from images. In addition, he is involved in the ILUSTRE project (set up by Renato Calzone and Rigo Selassa) aiming to accelerate the energy and water transition in the Caribbean region by means of AI. Eric has supervised many PhD, MSc and BSc thesis students and published about his AI research in scientific journals across many domains.
JADS also participates in several (international) projects, which contribute to grand societal challenges like health, food security, smart transport and secure societies. Together with companies, government, NGO’s and other knowledge institutions, JADS works on solutions by using data.
